Kickball reigns at Sprucelands! Last year we started kickball with the staff playing the campers. It was one of the awesome highlights from the summer.

Silly competition was fun. Everyone kicked, scored, cheered, ran and rolled on the ground with laughter. Oh my gosh! How my sides hurt from the giggles.
This year we haven't pit campers against staff. Instead, we've mixed everybody up. CITs, Counselors, Senior Staff and campers have joined together in Dr. Seuss kickball.
The same silliness prevailed. I think part of that silliness was being high over sunshine. It happened to be a gloriously crisp, beautiful summer day. We have been fortunate to enjoy a few of those in these two weeks.
Actually the rain has timed itself well. Often it rained in the night, during rest hour or meals.

That means we've dodged many a downpour and we've been able to do our scheduled programs just fine. Luckily there hasn't been a lot of thunder and lightning so the riding program has moved along well despite the mud.

You can see from the photos that the kids really got into the game. Enthusiasm for courageous and daring runs encouraged runners to try the daring. Sue made announcements and kept score over the bull horn. She is so spontaneously funny that she always keeps us in stitches with her play by play narration of who trips who or the kicker's awesome sommersaults around the bases.
There's much to celebrate when a runner comes home. There were congratulatory pats on the back and high fives. When the game was over, there was a major celebratory handshake between teams. Everyone was included.
I think there's a name for when the teams walk toward each other and shake hands. I'm unsure about what you call that. I just know the afternoon was one for the scrapbooks because it strengthened individual confidence. The kids walked taller. They reigned victorious in kickball. Team spirit became camp spirit, and life was good.
